Top Job Recruitment is currently working on behalf of a reputable children's home in Leiston, Suffolk. We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Support Worker to join their team and make a positive impact on the lives of young individuals in their care.
About the Home: The children's home in Leiston provides a nurturing environment for up to 4 young people. Located close to the scenic Suffolk Coast, the home offers support and care to children aged 9-17 with social, emotional, mental health, and behavioral difficulties. It is committed to building positive relationships and empowering young individuals to develop and thrive.

Role Overview: As a Senior Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in the children's home, working collaboratively with the staff team to achieve the home's statement of purpose. As the lead support worker on your shifts, you will provide guidance, manage a team of staff members, and support the management team in implementing care plans for each child. Your resilience, empathy, and leadership skills will contribute to the positive and nurturing environment within the home.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the provision of a sensitive and therapeutic residential service that meets the social, psychological, educational, cultural, physical, and health needs of the young people.
- Ensure that the care provided aligns with the organization's Statement of Purpose and reflects its values.
- Provide support, guidance, and delegation of duties to staff members, ensuring effective daily operations and practice issues.
- Plan and allocate shifts appropriately, ensuring resources are responsive to the needs of the children and supervising their activities.
- Offer advice, guidance, and support to both young individuals and staff members in maintaining boundaries, adhering to organizational expectations, and promoting their well-being.
- Carry out domestic tasks to maintain hygiene, cleanliness, and the overall condition of the building.
- Attend relevant meetings and actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes.
- Empower and support staff and young people in positive decision-making, fostering a culture of independence and personal development.
- Serve as a role model, consistently demonstrating good practice in all aspects of your work.
- Provide support and leadership to fellow staff members, promoting a cohesive and collaborative team environment.
- Conduct formal supervision sessions with staff members, contributing to their professional growth and development.
- Coordinate staff cover in the event of absence or sickness, in conjunction with the Manager.
- Participate in sleep-in shifts as part of a team on a regular basis.
- Develop and implement an engaging activities program for the home, while ensuring activities are appropriately risk-assessed under management's oversight.
- Support care planning and behavior support plans for each young person.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of shift events in the logbook, incident forms, and young people's logs.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- Provide comprehensive handover information to the next team, ensuring up-to-date documentation and accountability.
- Demonstrate a commitment to personal development through undertaking training and continuous learning.
- Maintain effective communication with parents, social services, and other relevant authorities as appropriate.
- Manage petty cash and purchasing when necessary.
- Undertake additional duties as requested by the Registered Homes Manager.
- Support keyworkers or undertake a keyworking role, ensuring up-to-date case files and keywork tasks.
Skills and Qualifications: Essential:
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in staff management and leadership.
- Strong behavior management skills and knowledge of safeguarding practices.
- Level 3 Diploma in Children's Workforce.
Desirable:
- Experience in providing professional supervision.
- Valid driving license.

Remuneration:
- Hourly rate: £13.75 - £14.25 (depending on experience).
- Additional remuneration for sleep-in duties: £45.00 per sleep-in.
